An All-Metal Pen Shaped Like a Pencil

Pu takes its silhouette from the pencil but makes it in aluminium. Nine CNC-cut facets give it defined edges, and the extra flat surface in the grip makes long sessions easier — the borrowing is of posture, not of drawbacks.

An All-Metal Pen Shaped Like a Pencil

The pencil shape has stayed popular for one reason: it sits correctly in the hand — three fingers on three flats, centre of gravity forward. Pu borrows that posture and makes it in aluminium, keeping the slim, plain, retro character while removing the weakness of a wooden shaft snapping.

What nine facets actually solve

A cylinder is not a bad shape. It is too neutral — on a desk or in someone else's hand, it does not read as an object with a point of view. Nine CNC-cut facets give flat faces and a defined edge, so as the pen turns, the highlight moves from face to face — something a cylinder cannot produce.

The nine-facet section: every face reflects at a different angle, so the highlight shifts across faces as it turns — a layer a round barrel cannot give

There is a more practical gain in the grip. A cylinder contacts the fingers through one curved surface; a nine-facet shape offers three flats that can take load steadily, so long sessions do not leave the hand making constant small corrections.

Why all metal

What students ask of a pen comes down to two things: it survives being dropped, and it does not snap. A wooden pencil breaking at the bottom of a schoolbag is routine; an all-metal structure removes the risk outright. Aluminium's impact resistance combined with an anodised surface means everyday knocks will not expose a lighter base colour the way plated parts do — worth more in daily student use than any styling parameter.

The twist tip solves a separate problem: no cap means no cap to lose. In lectures, study sessions and exams, a capless pen is one fewer thing to keep track of.

The trade-off should be stated. At 16g this is noticeably heavier than a wooden pencil, and the faceted profile has a definite tactile edge rather than an entirely smooth feel. Anyone who prefers a soft, fully round grip should try one first.

In one sentence: Pu is a pen whose posture is like a pencil and whose material is not — borrowing the part of a pencil that sits right in the hand, and using metal to fix the part that breaks too early.
