Dog 2.0 Magnetic Pen Bay: From Threads to Magnets, a Structure Finalized
The older threaded version is fully retired, replaced by a magnetic closure, a dual-magnet tail and split-colour finishes. A closer look at how Dog 2.0 went from brief to final spec.

The first version of the Dog pen bay opened with a threaded cap — dependable, but it always took half a turn. During the review the team reduced the question to one line: can putting the cap back feel as decisive as snapping a tool into a magnetic dock? Dog 2.0's answer was to remove the threads entirely.
"Not patching the old pen, but rebuilding the way it opens and closes." — the starting point of the Dog 2.0 redesign
Six changes from threads to magnets
| Aspect | Old (threaded) | Dog 2.0 (magnetic) |
| Cap closure | Thread, half a turn each time | Magnetic; cap and barrel share one diameter |
| Tail | Single magnet | Dual magnets; pens dock end to end |
| Refill fixing | Rear spring, refill retracts | Tip spring, stable writing |
| Colour | Functional head/tail contrast | Two-tone split finishes, five colours |
| Linking | Not supported | Two or four pens connect freely |
| Water | Thread gaps let water in | No gaps — fully washable |
Magnetic closure and the dog-profile silhouette: closed, the pen reads as one clean rod

Who it is for
Three kinds of people: professionals who want the desk to feel a bit different; gift-givers tired of identical presents; and daily writers who care about the click. The soft snap of the cap docking is the detail people mention most — finish a note, and the cap closes with a click, like a small full stop for the day.
Who it is not for
A solid-metal body carries weight; it is heavier than a plastic pen, and the metal feels cool in winter. The magnetic linking makes people want to collect colours. If you only want the lightest pen possible, this may not be it.
Dog 2.0 is the brand's current flagship; the older threaded version has been fully retired with no remaining stock.
