Why utility model plus design, not invention patent
A Chinese utility model protects the structure of a product; a design patent protects its appearance. For a hardware product like the pen bay, where the novelty lies in how the parts fit together rather than in a new material or method, structure and appearance are precisely what competitors will copy. Both are therefore registered, in both jurisdictions where the pen is manufactured and sold.
What this means for buyers
For procurement teams, registrations mean the design origin is traceable and its originality is verifiable — useful when you need to demonstrate to your own customers or compliance team that the product is not a copy. For cross-border distribution, rights covering China, the EU and Japan reduce the risk of imitation and resale by third parties in your main export markets.
How to verify independently
You do not need to rely on us to check these. Chinese patents can be looked up by number in the China National Intellectual Property Administration database; EU designs in the DesignView database of the European Union Intellectual Property Office; Japanese design registrations through the Japan Patent Office's Design Search. Use the numbers listed above as-is.
